Some common Q & A when buying a used Rolex...
Q: I'm told not to buy a Rolex without the certificate as it can be fake. A: If a used Rolex does not have it's orig. cert, it's actually alright because the cert only represents the warranty & if it's expired, you don't need to present it with the watch to the service centre. If the watch is genuine, Rolex Centre will still accept it & charge you the fees with or without the certificate. Some crooks actually fake the certificates while others altered the case numbers to match the certificate to increase it's value. So beware! Q: How do I tell if a Rolex is real? A:This is tough especially in recent times, the forgeries are very good and even some professionals are duped. A genuine Rolex is very well made & finishing is impeccable. The weight is heavy (unless the early models from 1970s & before) & the details of the dial still cannot be copied. The latest Rolex has a hologram on the sapphire crystal while some models have the Rolex word + logo etched onto inside of the bezel just @ the edge of the dial (face) & though some fakes have it as well, they are never as fine & sharp! Any fakes will be exposed once we open the watch & inspect the movement. This is the heart which cannot be copied & doesn't makes sense for the crooks to do it as it'll cost too much to manufacture a high quality Swiss movement. So, always buy from reputable dealers! Q: How can I tell the age of the Rolex & is older more valuable? A: Rolex watches have serial numbers engraved or stamped onto the case. Most of the numbers are actually not visible unless you remove the strap or open the case. Post 1980s Rolexes have an Alphabet in front of the numbers & they tell us which year it is approximately manufactured BUT they do not follow the order. The first being R followed by L, E, X & now Y, F, D, Z, M. Many of the old Rolexes are actually not very valuable. Value depends on it's demand & supply or popularity. Eg. an 18KYG watch with enamel dial, manual winding movt, hinged case from 1920s is probably worth US$1500 while the model "Prince" from the same era can be US$20000. Then a 1970s Explorer 2 is worth US$12500 today while a new Explorer 2 is now only US$4500. Q: Are those boxes, manuals worth anything? A: Boxes, manuals, tags, spare links, add extra value to a watch & these accessories can sometimes worth a few hundreds of dollars & in certain cases for rare watches, they affect up to 30% of it's value! So, remember to keep yours. Q: What should I look out for in a used Rolex? A: Condition is the most important factor. Only genuine Rolex parts can be used. Find those watches with orig accessories & certificate if possible, or just go and buy a new one! _________________ 「蛛絲馬跡皆學問,落花流水皆文章。」 |

哇!又被另外一位好友認出來,謝謝vul329大大您的寶貴意見,在下今年花了太多錢在買新錶上,太座大力反對購買,所以轉向買二手錶,希望申議書(給太座大人)能順利通過。 |
