Design a hand watch for man for mountain climbing or long distance hiking.
設計產品的要求 和 基本功能What are needed ? Any functions ?
This is a hand watch for man. Its name is “Delta I”. There are buttons to adjust hour, minute & date. The battery can be replaced. The watch is waterproofed, can detect the outdoor temperature, the relatively air temperature. It has also installed by a digital and a non-digital compass which can tell the hiker where is the North and hence, the position of his current place. Super Illuminator display illumination makes the face amazingly bright and easy-to-read, even in total darkness. This allows the hiker to know the time if he walks in the woods at night. When you open the watch, you will be given a little area for the storing of sulfur powder. If you ever seen a snake comes near you during your walk at the countryside, you can sprinkle some of the sulfur powder and turn away the snake.
選取的材料 MATERIALS Why these materials are selected ?
Materials for the watch chain and the main body of the watch: Stainless steel and modified steel because it is for a greater durability. The solid band also creates a better fit for the man’s hand.
Material for the face of the watch: Crystal because it can be seen through and is tougher than glass.

1. Functions功能 (描述任何機械 零件或 配件的操作，如何滿足 設計產品的要求 和 基本功能) :
1.1 The thermometer, which is on the right of the watch, is used for showing the temperature. The user can choose oC / oF.
1.2 The air pressure thermometer which is on the left of the watch is use to show the pressure of the outdoors. The barometer can also roughly predict the weather.
1.3 The digital compass at the top of the watch can show the 8 directions (N, E, S, W, NE, SE, NW, SW). The non-digital compass also is installed in case the digital compass does not work properly.
1.4 The digital clock, which is on the right of the watch, shows the time and date of a different country. (The time can be changed to another country by adjusting)
1.5 There is a GPS at the bottom of the watch to allow the hiker to know where he is located at present.
1.6 The altitude shows on the left of the watch allows the hike to know how high he has climbed.
1.7 The mirror is for the hiker to reflect images behind him and to show himself his own image, for example, how he looks, and most of all, to notice is there anyone is following him suspiciously, so he can take responds to this kind of incident. When he got lost, the mirror can reflect the sunlight and someone can find him more easily.
1.8 The knob at the side of the watch can be turned in order to regulate the time. This is believed to be the easiest way to regulate the time.
1.9 The 2 knobs at the bottom of the main body of the watch are to open the watch so that a little storing space is revealed.
1.10 After the watch is opened, the lower part consists of a little drawer which can be used to store some sulfur powder to scare away the snakes.
Comfortable, Safe, Efficient (a)舒適、(b) 安全和 (c ) 效率 :
(a) The watch is round-ended, so the person who wears it won’t be cut by it.
(b) The solid band of the watch creates a better fit for the man’s hand.
(c) Since the band is flexible, the number of cubes in the solid band can also be changed to fit a particular size and shape of a hand.

產品的設計如何影響社會文化 或 社會文化如何影響產品的設計SOCIAL IMPACT AND INFLUENCE OF CULTURE TO BE DEVELOPED FROM THE PROJECT
This watch is better for the hikers because it provides much more details of the surroundings to the hiker. He can learn more about the temperature and pressure at his current position in order to improve his state. For example, if it is cooler than before, the hiker can wear more clothes by the temperature, which is shown on the watch, and prevent him from getting sick. Other than that, the storing of sulfur powder in the watch can help to decrease the accidents, which are caused by snakes’ bites. The mirror can help the hiker to see if there is anyone following him suspiciously, so he can take responds to this kind of incident and hence, lowers the criminal actions taken place at the country side.
Then, the hikers will be safer whenever they travel. With these safety percussions, hikers will enjoy their trips more and can also attract more people to join this activity.

The concept of design which you propose is still a Re-Design only with some additional functions. As far as a design homework is concerned, imagination and creativity shall be the most important factors. Do not limit yourself because of the design aim " Design a hand watch for man for mountain climbing or long distance hiking." Mountain climbing or long distance hiking is definitely a design requirement, but hand watch shall not necessarily be considered as a "WATCH" worn on the wrist. For example, a two-finger glove with all the functions which you mention in your design may totally satisfy the design purpose. Then why this glove-shape like stuff can not be called a "HAND WATCH." If you realize what I am saying, I believe you will enjoying a happy and funny design assignmeny. Good Luck to a 中三學生.
